As if it is not bad enough that the US government maintains secret lists of citizens who are not allowed to fly on airplanes because they may be possible “terrorists”, now some representatives in Congress are trying to find other ways to utilize this list to create other restrictions. H.R. 2401 is a bill that has been introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY). This bill would further restrict people on the No Fly List from exercising their 2nd Amendment right to purchase firearms by entering them into the NICS system thereby ensuring that they are rejected when a background check is run.
The No Fly list has swelled to over a million names since its creation and has turned into a McCarthy era black list which is used to punish whistleblowers or anyone else who the government labels as dangerous. According to recent DHS Reports the US Government considers Iraq veterans, gun owners and anyone else who dares to exercise their 1st Amendment rights to be right wing extremists and possible terrorists. Undoubtedly many of these people will find themselves on the No Fly List. If this bill manages to pass they will soon find themselves unable to purchase firearms and who knows what else in the future. Of course all of this is done in complete secrecy without due process in violation of the Bill of Rights.
